Public Service Minor

Program Coordinator: Missy Gish, Department of Political Science, Criminal Justice, and Organizational Leadership

The Public Service minor is designed for students interested in careers that focus on serving others, usually through government agencies and nonprofit organizations. These careers may involve policy making, implementation and evaluation in areas such as: community and economic development, policing and emergency management, health care and education administration, community and public art programs, and so on. Some courses are offered online, and others are internships that allow students to apply classroom learning in a government, nonprofit, or related organization in the northern Kentucky/Greater Cincinnati region, the state capital of Frankfort, or another locale (maximum 6 credit hours in internships). For students interested in pursuing a Master of Public Administration at NKU, the three required courses (PAD 500 , 501 , and 511 ) may be waived by the MPA Admission Committee, after review of transcripts and consultation with the student.

Special graduation requirements: Students majoring or minoring in any of the programs offered by the Department of Political Science, Criminal Justice, and Organizational Leadership must earn at least a C- in each course counted as part of their program.
