The Certificate Program in Addictions Research and Practice provides students the opportunity to obtain greater unified training beyond their current degrees in one of the helping professions (e.g. Counseling, Human Services, Psychology, Social Work, Nursing, etc.), offering a more robust foundation in the research and practice of the field of Addictions. Students will gain supervised experience in addictions research that will help prepare them for additional academic endeavors or supervised experience in addictions practice in preparation of being a certified or licensed addictions counselor.

Admission Requirements
Individuals applying must meet all requirements for admission to graduate study at Northern Kentucky University as defined by the Graduate Catalog at the time of application in addition to the following:
1. An undergraduate GPA of 2.75 on a 4 point scale.
2. An undergraduate major, minor or area of focus in a helping profession. (An area of focus must include foundational coursework in psychology, developmental theory and analytical reasoning or statistics. Admissions faculty will determine the appropriateness of area of focus.)
3. Complete application and submit transcripts to the Office of Graduate Education along with $40 application fee. (It should be noted that a post graduate certificate is not considered degree seeking.)
Matriculation Requirements
1. Courses may be completed as part of a master’s degree program.
2. If a student has taken one (or more) of the core courses (listed below) as an elective or as part of his/her undergraduate program and received a minimum grade of B, this(ese) course(s) may be waived by the ARP Admission Committee, after review of transcripts and consultation with the student. If more than one course is approved to be waived, the student may choose, with approval of his/her advisor, an elective course so that he/she will complete a minimum of 18 credit hours as part of the certificate.
