Hours: 3 classroom + 0 lab/studio
Prerequisite(s): PRE 275 .
Taught: Fall and spring
In this class, students create an interview protocol, conduct a 60-90 minute interview and write up the findings. The second research project is a content analysis where students code media (a full season of a TV show, 3 months worth of online newspaper articles or magazines, a month of social media, etc.), then write-up their findings. The third research project is a group project. Students research an NKU student issue that can be found at other Kentucky schools and nation wide, then write-up a focus group protocol and facilitate focus groups. They then write up findings as a group and present a formal in-class presentation. Finally, students are required to conduct an observation project where they observe and code buying behaviors then present a formal presentation to the class. In addition, there are 4 exams covering paradigms, and all research methods utilized in PR (i.e., case studies, ethnography, interviewing, focus groups, content analysis, ethnography, historical research, action research, grounded theory, etc). This course is designated scholarship intensive and includes coursework to fulfill that designation.
