Applied Artificial Intelligence Minor

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Degrees, Minors, and Certificates

Artificial intelligence is transforming our personal and professional lives, has broad societal and political consequences, and has profound psychological and philosophical implications. It has also overturned conventional views of how humans and machines communicate with each other, leading to new career paths such as prompt engineering. Yet the advanced computational foundations of the field make it seem arcane and inscrutable.

This interdisciplinary minor is designed to give students in any major an accessible view of contemporary AI: how it works, how it is changing, how we interact with technology and each other, and how it informs, and is informed by, other disciplines.  It achieves this with a core of five courses (two of which meet General Education requirements, each in a different category), plus two advanced electives.

This minor will give students a foundation from which they can more deeply explore how AI affects their major field of study and their future careers.
