LAW 919 Entertainment Law (3 credits) This course will provide an in-depth introduction to the field covering the legal and practice issues related to popular music, television, and feature films, as well as the development of the legal skills required of entertainment lawyers. Also included in the course are U.S. copyright law and the Berne Convention. The course will also cover negotiating, drafting, and interpreting recording agreements, music publishing agreements, and film distribution agreements.
This is an online course. Students will study and apply the reading materials through a series of research, drafting, and negotiating exercises. While there are no live sessions, students are expected to stay current on all reading assignments, participate actively each week, complete CALI and drafting exercises, and work closely with their partners on collaborative projects. There is also a final exam.
