NRP 670 Adult Health Promotion and Disease Prevention (2 credits)Hours: 2 classroom + 0 lab/studio Prerequisite(s): NRP 606 and NRP 608 . Co-requisite(s): NRP 605 and NRP 670L. Taught: Summer only This didactic course will introduce current theories, issues and research related to health promotion and disease prevention in the adult population as it relates to individuals, families, communities and populations. Emphasis will be placed on the role of the advanced practice nurse in risk assessment, screening, counseling and education from adolescence through old age. Lifestyle, cultural, environmental, socio-economic, and genetic variables will be incorporated. Recognition of vulnerability across the adult lifespan and in the diverse settings of primary, chronic and acute care will be emphasized. Risk assessment and management will be grounded in evidence based practice principles and guidelines. ♦
